Black Pen
The ‘Archive of Black Pen’ was originally designed for my final major project and graduation show at the Royal College of Art in 2015. Featured in the show was a collection of original drawn swatches on Japanese paper, silk scarves, a hand-drawn mural wallpaper and framed artworks. A year in the making, I spent my time compiling the marks of many different types of black pen into an artist book. This became a type of diary of pigment and committed creative exploration (or obsession) of documenting the possibilities of the default marker. Originally inspired by my resistance to surface imperfection during the process of colouring-in, this project represents a turning point in my now more in-depth approach to it.
The Archive continues to grow today.
